What’s the big deal about Jesus?
The Reality Of Our World
I don’t think it’s difficult to understand that we live in a world that is broken to its core. We see murder, disease, drug addictions, war, and natural disasters on the daily news. We experience the physical deaths of those we love. We see relationships destroyed. We see those who do good things imprisoned and those who lie, cheat, and steal celebrated. We see this brokenness multiplying with each passing day. Everywhere there are people that have grown numb to the issues of the world because they are overwhelmed by its brokenness. With their apathy, the world’s brokenness spirals into further and further brokenness with every earthly attempt to fix it. War is corrected by bigger weapons, which kill thousands and impact millions. Disease is corrected by treatments that are sometimes worse than the disease. People jump from one broken relationship to the next because they are told to seek the one that makes them happy. Addicts trade out one drug for another in an attempt to overcome their addictions. All of this just adds brokenness on top of brokenness. It leaves us with this realization; nothing on earth can fix our brokenness because our brokenness is the result of sin (Sin is anything we do that God commands us not to do or anything we don’t do that God has commanded us to do)! But sin and brokenness are not what God intended or desires for you, or this world!
God’s Design
His design for mankind was perfect, in the Genesis account of creation, God looked at all that he created after creating man and woman and said, “It is very good.”, but as the serpent tempted Adam and Eve and they chose to disobey God, the perfection of Creation was destroyed. For the generations since the first sin in the Garden, we have all been born into sin. In a letter to the Roman Church, the Apostle Paul wrote this about mankind and sin: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Each of us desires our own way instead of God’s. As a result, our world grows more and more broken as we live out our sinfulness. So much so, that now we can only see glimpses of God’s majesty in His Creation.
God’s Fix For Brokenness
But God did not want the world to remain broken by sin. He loves us and He made a way for us to be saved. The story of Christ’s death and resurrection tells us that God loves us and has made a way to restore all that is broken. No matter how the brokenness of sin is evident in your life today, you can find hope, because Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead to display the Father’s acceptance of His sacrifice. If you repent (Change your mind about sin, no longer want to sin, but want to follow God) and believe that Jesus is the Son of God who was born of a virgin, that Jesus walked the earth sinlessly for 33 years, that He went to the Cross and took your punishment from God (the fullness of God’s perfect wrath for sin), that He died for our sins and God raised Him from the dead three days later, that He ascended into Heaven and that He will one day return, then your brokenness can be mended, your sin can be forgiven, and your life can be made new.
In that newness of life, true spiritual life, that comes through faith in Jesus, you can begin to live in pursuit of God’s perfect design for your life. Through new life in Christ, you can live a life that brings God glory, you can live a life of obedience to His commands, and you can live a life that is unshaken in the brokenness of this world because you are standing on the unshakeable cornerstone of Christ.
By grace, through faith in Jesus, one day you can see all the brokenness of this world swept away.
By grace, through faith in Jesus, one day Jesus will create a New Heaven and New Earth where we can live forever with Him.
By grace, through faith in Jesus, one day, because of the perfection of Christ’s sacrifice and the power of the resurrection, you can stand with untold numbers who will all be singing the praise of God and the Lamb as told in Revelation 7: 9: “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
All this truth was made possible through a bloody cross, the empty tomb, and the resurrection of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
It is our prayer today that you know this truth,
that you are set free from sin in this truth,
that you repent in the face of this truth,
and that you live in the freedom of this truth.
Today, if you need to be rescued from your brokenness in sin and want to profess your faith in Jesus, cry out to the Lord for forgiveness and wholeness.
